How to Pack for a Time-lapse

with KYLE HART

Grabbing those amazing time-lapses in nature is great, but what's not great is all the gear you have to bring in order to pull it off. Preparation before shooting a time-lapse is crucial and you want to make sure that you can pack everything you need. In this video we talk about the gear that we use in order to bring our Rhino Slider EVO up the mountain to get that sweet shot.

Key Items to Bring

These are some of the few key items we always bring with us to every time-lapse shoot. They improve our workflow and help us get the time-lapse shot we want.

Peak Design Capture Quick Release

This will allow you to mount your camera to your backpack strap or waist belt for easy access, so you don't have to take it our of your backpack each time.

F-Stop ICU bag (Large)

This is a great ICU bag and has plenty of room. It will keep your gear organized and protected. The great thing about this ICU is that it will go right inside most larger hiking backpacks.

Goal Zero Sherpa 100

An external battery source is great for making sure all your gear has power throughout the trip. We love Goal Zero because they are reliable and powerful.

Things to remember when packing your gear

  • Do not forget to bring extra batteries for the cameras.
  • Be sure to bring dew heaters if you are doing a night-time time lapse for several hours.
  • Bring extra SD cards just in case.
  • Bring a wide angle lens to get a better composition.
  • Bring an extra light source just in case you want to do long exposure photography.
