In this week's episode of Move with Rhino, we wanted to shed some light on the importance of using a Neutral Density (ND) filter when shooting your videos. ND filters might be something you have heard of often but never really saw the real purpose of them. Well, we want to help you out and let you know what we use it for and which brand we prefer. Check out the video below!
An ND filter, is a filter that reduces or modifies the intensity of all wavelengths, or colors, of light equally, giving no changes in hue of color rendition. In other words, a Neutral Density filter allows you to stop light from reaching the camera sensor, therefore allowing you to use your lens at a higher aperture for more depth of field.
Which one should you buy?
There are many ND filters out in the market and we have definitely tried them all. However, we found that the X4 ND filter by Breakthrough Photography was the best. Compared to all the other popular brands that we have tried, the X4 ND is the thinnest and most accurate when it comes to color. There is minimal to no color cast with this filter. We would highly recommend it!
Pro Tip: If you shoot outside often in bright light, we recommend a 6-stop ND filter. If you catch yourself filming mostly inside or by bright windows, we recommend a 3-stop ND filter. Keep in mind, you can always stack two ND filters on top of each other (i.e. combining two 3-stops to make 6-stops).

If you want to know which gear we used to shoot this video and most of our films, we have provided the links below. Just remember, that aside from all the gear, the most important part of filming is the story. Good luck!
